Diggin’ into WordPress

Diggin into WordPress

After months of using Tumblr, I wanted to jump on the WordPress bandwagon.  I was pretty hesitant because buying a domain and server space is brand new to me.  My marketing class gave a push over the hill to get this WordPress site going.  So before buying web space, I picked up this book, Digging into WordPress.  It was a option book for my Promotions Management class.  Once I got it, I looked over the first couple chapters to see what I was getting into.  The first chapter’s didn’t make it sound so complicated.

Just yesterday, I bought my server space through Dynadot.  They were a local company from San Mateo that seemed legit.  After looking around and buying their premium server space for $60 a year, I found out it was a good deal!  For $60 a month, you get 500GB of disk space and 200GB of bandwidth. You get list multiple domains and SQL databases.  I can pretty much use this server space for many sites.  I debating to transfer my daligatennis to a wordpress…but who knows.  Also, they have Fantastico so you could easily upload wordpress, other blogs, shopping carts, forums, etc.  But I decided to manually install WordPress.  It was for my own good.

Back to the book, It goes over EVERYTHING WordPress…from installation, themes, loops, feeds, plugins widgets, security script, and SEO.  The first chapters were straight forward.  Once you get into the body of the book, it goes over a lot script and making your own theme.  I will have to get into that when I figure out the basics.

I believe this is a great book/manual for people getting into WordPress.  The authors are very knowledgeable with WordPress, CSS, and script.
